Xikou Stream Scenic Area in Ningde, Fujian

The stream stretches over 20 kilometers with crystal-clear water revealing the bottom, where pools, rapids, and shoals alternate in sequence. Green mountains and emerald waters are complemented by a diverse array of rare trees and colorful flowers, including camphor trees, maple trees, banyan trees, flowering bamboos, myriad bamboos, golden bamboos, azaleas, boxwoods, and reeds distributed in patches. More than 30 cultural landscapes, such as “Wenguang Breaking the Boat,” “Golden Tortoise Playing with the Giant Turtle,” and “Guanyin Seated on the Lotus,” are vivid and lifelike. The stream abounds in freshwater delicacies including sweetfish, river eels, hairy crabs, soft-shelled turtles, and carp, as well as rare animals such as mandarin ducks, paradise flycatchers, and otters.
The scenic area is home to She ethnic minority villagers. The Guanyin Pavilion Fortress in the middle reaches serves as the exclusive gathering place for She people from Xiapu, Fu’an, and Fuding counties or cities to hold “antiphonal singing” every year on the 15th day of the first lunar month and the 8th day of the fourth lunar month.

Opening hours: Open all year round, all day.
